United Bakers Dairy Restaurant is the Lawrence Plaza table that started in 1912 as a five-cent coffee house in the Ward. Aaron and Sarah Ladovsky, from Kielce, kept it dairy — milchick only — so the observant could sit. The official history still calls it a place to eat and a place to meet.
The shop moved with Jewish Toronto: the Ward, then Spadina, then 506 Lawrence Avenue West. Blintzes, soup, bagels, the same format. A June statement called it lunch.
We have no public plate photograph. A Toronto tradition since 1912 is the line they print on the door.
