Grey Gardens, the Kensington wine bar

Everyone is drawn to restaurateur Jen Agg’s hip, boisterous venue, which manages both style and substance with confident charm.

Michelin Guide

Grey Gardens is a restaurant and wine bar at 199 Augusta Avenue in Kensington Market. Jen Agg and Mitch Bates opened it in February 2017. Agg said she wanted to fill the hole of vibrant wine bars with excellent food. Bates came from Momofuku Ko and Shōtō. The kitchen is now led by AJ Lapointe.

Michelin has kept it a Bib Gourmand since 2022 and calls the house-made pastas a showstopper. The name is the grey chairs and the grey room — not the 1976 documentary, and not that poster. The photograph is from the official site: a pour at the marble, bottles on the bar.

A Saturday statement. The steely gate on Augusta is how you enter.
