Fairmont Royal York, across from Union
A stately landmark since its opening in 1929.
Fairmont official site
The Fairmont Royal York opened in 1929 at 100 Front Street West, directly across from Union Station. A château-style railway hotel, limestone and a green copper roof, still the downtown landmark the city was built around.
The official house calls it a stately landmark and a gateway to a Toronto stay. This line on the statement was coffee in the lobby, not a night in a suite. The photograph is the Front Street face of the hotel, from Wikimedia — the building, not a latte art stock shot.
Same Saturday as the UP Express ticket. The hotel is the old city. The train is the new hallway.
