Cafe Landwer, shakshuka and the takeout bag
Good days start at Landwer.
Cafe Landwer official site
Cafe Landwer is the Israeli-Mediterranean café that Toronto now treats as both a sit-down brunch room and a takeout counter. The Canadian site still says it plainly: Mediterranean-inspired brunch, dinner, and specialty coffee, or order online for pickup and delivery. The house dates the family café to Berlin, 1919. The Toronto shops are the long table a century later.
What the menu is for: Landwer’s classic shakshuka, the Mediterranean plate with feta and eggplant, halloumi and spinach, merguez, or the Sinia kebab version — each with tahini, a side salad, and pita, sourdough, or challah. There is a plant-based shakshuka with falafel. Daytime also runs omelettes, eggs Benedict, mezze, grilled salmon, French-cut cajun chicken. Coffee is the other half of the ticket. The app is built for the usual order, ahead, in a bag.
The statements show Forest Hill Village (Spadina Road) and Avenue and Lawrence, sit-down totals and a smaller takeout line, late May into June. One post for the house, not five. The photograph is the official heritage interior — the room, not a skillet close-up, and not a stall.
Good days start at Landwer, they write. The desk is only saying the shakshuka is the order, and the bag is part of the restaurant.
